| Summary: |
The story of Paulie and Sasha encourage children to
become good citizens and respect the differences of others. |
| Critical Annotation: |
The authors and illustrators have created a story
with the trials and tribulations of two bears (one from New Jersey
and one from Russia) who both failed to make a success of their audition
with a circus. But when they pair up their talents they discovery
that they have overcome difficulties and make a very strong team.
The theme of the stories help develop multicultural and cross cultural
understanding.
The simple graphic illustrations portray the dynamics of the story
line in both their color choices and their black line emphasis.
After the importance of an informative text, the most supportive factor
of this book is visual appeal to young readers. The layout of the
various pages is diversified and well balanced between text and full
color illustrations so that the story line flows fro the reader. The
flow and balance of both the text and visuals are integrated to present
a very entrancing book for both young readers. |
| Series comments: |
This Paula & Sasha series is well written, beautifully
illustrated and nicely formatted. The selection of topics and illustrations
are varied to capture the interest of young readers. In creating a
format that intersperses text with visuals the series has created
a non-threatening approach for young readers. |
